Facts About Getting Sober Time: The Only Way To Get Sober Coffee, cold showers, water or foods are all myths that don't work. Getting Sober Takes A Lot Longer Than Most People Think Alcohol is eliminated from the body at the rate of .015 per hour. An average night of drinking can easily produce an alcohol level of .150. At that level, it will take 10 hours to completely eliminate all of the alcohol. Food Slows The Rate Of Absorption Alcohol is absorbed into the bloodstream at a slower rate when food is present in the stomach. It will take a little longer for a person to feel the effects of the alcohol. However, eating or drinking water has no affect on the amount of alcohol that is ingested.
Women Absorb Alcohol Faster, Eliminate It Slower Women absorb alcohol at a faster rate than men because their bodies contain less water.
Women also eliminate alcohol at a slower rate than men. The enzyme that is responsible for breaking down alcohol is produced at a slower rate in women's bodies.
In general, a woman's alcohol level will be higher than a man's even if she has consumed the same amount of alcohol.
